Problems with Vegan diet [27 Jan 2004|04:31pm] [ mood | amused ] Boy On Vegan Diet in State Custody LAST UPDATE: 1/21/2004 4:27:18 PM A Bountiful couple is disputing claims their vegan diet left their kids malnourished. Dan and Carolee Thaxton rushed their unresponsive 20-month old son to the hospital last June. Doctors say the boy was malnourished by his parents' vegan diet, but the couple says carbon monoxide from a faulty furnace led to the boy's health problems. The boy was taken into state custody. One of the Thaxton's other children died in October 2001 and the couple says that was also related to carbon monoxide poisoning. But a medical examiner has said the boy malnourished. Carbon monoxide poisoning can lead to vitamin deficiencies which can also occur in vegan diets. The couple will undergo a psychological evaluation. A hearing's been set for February. post comment
